Staff Roles

Congregations always compete for the attention of staff, especially clergy. Staff need to make sure that young adults get their share.

It helps to have at least one clergy staff who is in or close to this age group.

All clergy need to greet young adults by name, to promote visibility and belonging.

Clergy need to communicate that this group is a priority because they matter, not because older adults want them to "save the parish."

Include young adults in leadership, but be patient with travel schedules, wandering focus.

Be prepared for new ways of communicating, forming community, seeking values.
