Silence
We need to be taught the benefits of silence.
- Create a quiet space for hearing one's own soul speak
- Create an empty space for God to fill
- Let God do and be whatever God wants
We need to be taught the value of silence. It is a necessary contrast to a noisy world. It is a deliberate act to get outside oneself in order to comprehend oneself -- in listening for another's sound, one hears one's own heart more clearly.
In addition to teaching individuals how to be silent, congregations should offer occasions of corporate silence, such as walking a labyrinth, a silent retreat, Lenten silent periods.
